Sautéed Watercress – Light, Aromatic, and Perfect as a Side Dish or Appetizer

Watercress is one of the most nutritious and versatile vegetables we can bring to the table. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and with a characteristic flavor that combines freshness and a slight spiciness, it becomes even more special when sautéed with garlic and onion. This simple and quick recipe transforms a watercress sauce into an elegant appetizer or a lively side dish.

Ideal for those looking for healthy and vibrant options, made with few ingredients and ready in minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of watercress
  • 1 onion (optional)
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • A drizzle of olive oil
  • Extra vegetables to taste (optional)
  • Grated cheese (optional)

Preparation method:

1️⃣ Wash the watercress and other vegetables thoroughly. Shake to remove excess water.

2️⃣ Slice the onion thinly and chop the garlic.

3️⃣ Heat a frying pan with a drizzle of olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden brown.

4️⃣ Add the watercress (and other vegetables, if desired) and mix everything together.

5️⃣ Season with salt and pepper. Cook until you reach your desired consistency.

6️⃣ Transfer to a bowl and, if you like, add grated cheese on top.

Extra tip: For an even tastier touch, add sliced mushrooms or a little lemon juice at the end to enhance the freshness of the watercress.

A simple, healthy, and flavorful starter or side dish — perfect for highlighting the fresh vegetables in Maria's Garden baskets. Because the difference is in the flavor! 🥬✨
