Description

Description

Peanuts are an oily fruit from the same family as chestnuts, walnuts, and hazelnuts, and are rich in fats that help reduce inflammation in the body and protect the heart.

This fruit is widely used in various culinary preparations, such as desserts, snacks, cereal bars, cakes and chocolates, and is easily found in supermarkets, small grocery stores and food stores.

Properties

A 100g quantity of peanuts has approximately 544 kilocalories, in addition to 20g of carbohydrates, 27g of proteins, 44g of fat (mostly monounsaturated), in addition to other nutrients such as zinc, folic acid, magnesium, vitamins B and E. It does not contain cholesterol.

How to consume

Peanuts can be consumed in a variety of ways. Most popularly roasted as a snack, peanuts can also be eaten as paste, sweets (such as paçoca and pé de moleque), savory, and even used as a side dish.

Even with this diversity of consumption possibilities, the most suitable for daily use is raw peanuts. Any natural food exposed to heat, weather, humidity, and any other environmental changes tends to undergo changes in its properties and characteristics.

When roasted, for example, it experiences a decrease in the concentration of proteins, dietary fiber and carbohydrates, while its caloric content can increase by up to 11%.

Therefore, the best type for daily consumption is raw. Even raw, consumption should be moderate, not exceeding portions equivalent to the palm of your hand, five times a week.

However, consumption by men should be guided by a nutritionist, as the oilseed is toxic and can increase the risk of cancer in men.

BENEFITS OF PEANUTS

Cancer prevention

Because they are a source of substances such as resveratrol, folic acid, phytic acid, and vitamin E, peanuts are a powerful ally in preventing some types of cancer.

Studies show, for example, that it effectively prevents colon cancer in people who consume it regularly at least twice a week, reducing the incidence by more than 55% in women and 25% in men.

Weight loss

As it is a food that contains the 3 macronutrients (fats, proteins and carbohydrates), in addition to being an excellent source of fiber, it provides a feeling of satiety, especially for people on restrictive diets, alleviating the feeling of food deprivation – which leads many people to eat more.

Peanuts are an excellent option to be consumed in small portions throughout the day.

Muscle building

Containing a reasonable amount of protein, it is a plant-based food that has rich amino acid chains in its formation, helping in muscle building.

Furthermore, it is a great source of energy, making it ideal for physical exercise.

Protection of the nervous system

A source of vitamin B3, a daily serving of peanuts can provide approximately 15% of the daily intake needed to protect against diseases such as Alzheimer's and senility, which are more common with advancing age.

Therefore, it can be an important source of vitamins for the care of the brain and nervous system.

Antioxidant function

Foods with antioxidant properties are important for preventing premature aging, heart disease, and even cancer.

Knowing this, peanuts, rich in vitamin E, have an antioxidant function that, by fighting free radicals, is ideal for preventing degeneration.

Interestingly, in this case, if roasted properly, it can increase the concentration of polyphenols by up to 22%.
