Description
The benefits of rosemary tea, scientifically named Rosmarinus officinalis, include improving digestion, relieving headaches, and combating frequent fatigue.
But there are other lesser-known benefits of this incredible aromatic and medicinal plant, which can be found throughout the country and is easy to use. Some of them include:
Benefits
Improves digestion quickly
Rosemary tea can be taken immediately after main meals to aid digestion, as it has a cholagogue effect, which helps empty the gallbladder. This makes digestion easier, especially after eating fatty and heavy foods, as the bile released by the gallbladder helps digest fats.
It is a great natural antibiotic
When used as an essential oil, rosemary has a strong antibiotic effect, especially against E. coli, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, Aeromonas hydrophila, and Salmonella choleraesuis, which cause problems such as urinary tract infections, gastroenteritis, and generalized infections.
This effect appears to be related to the presence of rosmarinic acid, rosmaridiphenol, carnosol, epirosmanol, rosmanol and carnosic acid in the composition of rosemary, which interact with the membrane of bacteria, preventing them from developing and multiplying.
Eliminates fluid retention
Rosemary tea is an excellent natural diuretic that can be used to combat fluid retention in the body because it increases urine production, which stimulates the body to eliminate retained fluids and toxins as much as possible, improving health.
However, rosemary also appears to increase the elimination of sodium and potassium in the urine, and should therefore only be used for 1 week and under the guidance of a doctor or nutritionist.
Combats mental fatigue
Studies have proven the benefits of rosemary for brain function, especially due to its antioxidant action, which appears to help during periods of increased stress, such as before and during exams and tests, or before and after very important work meetings.
Furthermore, rosemary's properties also appear to help prevent Alzheimer's, especially because, in addition to its antioxidant action, it also inhibits COX-2, a type of inflammatory enzyme that appears in high levels in Alzheimer's patients.
Protects liver health
Due to its high phenolic content, rosemary has a strong antioxidant effect that helps protect the liver against disease, especially when using the plant's shoots.
However, if you already have liver disease, rosemary tea should not be used, as its cholagogue effect can worsen symptoms.
Helps control diabetes
In some animal studies, rosemary tea was able to keep blood glucose levels under control, and can therefore serve as a complement to the treatment of diabetes.
In these studies, 200 ml of rosemary tea was ingested 30 to 60 minutes before main meals.
Fights inflammation
Drinking rosemary tea is also good for fighting inflammation and relieving pain, swelling, and discomfort, due to its rosmarinic acid content. Therefore, it can help combat cases of gastritis, for example, where there is inflammation in the stomach.
Similarly, when used as an essential oil, rosemary can also help treat orthopedic inflammation issues such as tendonitis and muscle pain. To use the oil, dilute one or two drops in 10 drops of vegetable oil, such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or olive oil, and then massage into the affected area. Another option is to add a few drops to your bathwater.
Strengthens the immune system
Because it is rich in antioxidants, rosemary also appears to help strengthen the immune system, especially in people with weakened immunity.
Helps fight cancer
Due to its rich composition of antioxidants such as rosmarinic acid, carnosic acid, and carnosol, rosemary is able to reduce the amount of heterocyclic amines in some foods, which are toxic substances produced when food is cooked at high temperatures and which increase the risk of cancer.
Therefore, adding rosemary to dishes that require high-heat cooking, especially grilled dishes, appears to be a good strategy for reducing the production of these toxic substances that contribute to cancer.
Makes hair more beautiful
In addition to all this, unsweetened rosemary tea can be used to wash your hair, because it strengthens the strands, combats excessive oiliness and dandruff, and facilitates hair growth, because it improves microcirculation in the scalp.
