Avocado or pear avocado, as can also be designated, is the fruit of the avocado tree, originating from South America. Although it needs a subtropical climate to develop, its consumption in Portugal is already possible throughout the year due to the existence of plantations in the south of the country.

This fruit has generated a lot of curiosity for consumers due to all its nutritional properties, having been noticed the increase in its consumption. Taking into account its nutritional composition, avocado can integrate various diets, from low-calorie diets for weight loss to hypercaloric diets for weight gain or adapted to sports.

Avocado is known to be mostly composed of monounsaturated fats, which are healthy fats for the body and which produce various health benefits. Among them stand out the benefits in reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels, revealing to be a good cardiovascular protector.

Avocado is a fruit nutritionally rich in vitamins and minerals, of which vitamins A, C, B6 and E stand out.

How to consume avocado?

The avocado to be consumed is about 160g. This fruit is appreciated due to all its nutritional properties, for its smooth taste and creamy texture, also standing out for its versatility of use. Avocado is usually eaten raw, but can also be cooked. There are several different ways to integrate it into meals, from cubed mixed with pasta and salads, to pasta (such as guacamole) with toasts or bread, in sauces, shakes or even soups or desserts.
