Description
This fruit is one of the most well-known and nutritious foods, grown primarily in temperate climates. Every 100 grams of apple provides, on average, 58 calories.
This apple contains reasonable amounts of fiber and vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E, as well as minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and potassium.
Diabetes: Red Delicious apples are rich in pectin, a fiber that helps control blood sugar. It's recommended to eat two small apples daily; this amount is sufficient for the required pectin intake.
Cholesterol: Researchers at the University of Florida found that pectin fiber also helps reduce bad cholesterol by forming a fiber in the intestinal wall, preventing the absorption of cholesterol and other fats. The study involved 160 women between the ages of 45 and 65.
Stroke: This apple may reduce a person's risk of suffering a stroke. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by Wageningen University in the Netherlands, which followed 20,069 people between the ages of 20 and 65. The research took ten years to develop. After this period, researchers found that people who ate more white-fleshed fruits and vegetables were 52% less likely to have a stroke. Although they emphasize that further studies are needed to confirm their findings, the researchers state that eating one apple a day reduces the risk by about 40%.
